What's the best way to install a bow roller for my Bruce anchor line on my "new" '01 250? Thanks. My Bruce will replace the Danforth that's stowed in the bow locker. Bruce because it's an all terrain hook. The Danforth only works in sand or mud.

I am under the impression that you may anchor more than most. I am a "gitt'r done" type who would google anchor rollers (several "stores" on ebay carry lots) and find a product that would make its installation requirements self explanatory by its design.
However, back to my opening statement, I have seen some bow sprits while cruising ebay and wonder if you would not benefit from a little design license with the 250 design. With a sprit added to your bow you could have a serious anchor on a good roller like this one...

I installed the AR-3 from West Marine in about 20 minutes referencing the links and info on this site. Easiest mod I've made to my 250WB #265.

Frank, I use a 13 lb danforth on 40 feet of 5/16 chain + about 300 feet of 1/2 nylon as my main anchor. This has held the boat in everything you are likely to see in Southern CA - where our sea beds are mostly sand and mud (good holding for a dan). I also have a 13 lb dan on 50 feet of 1/4 chain + 200 feet of line as my backup, and a 8 lb dan on 5 feet of chain and 150 feet of 1/4 inch line that I use as my stern anchor. Last summer at Santa Cruz Island when the wind reversed my 8 lb anchor held the boat against strong winds and waves for many hours.

As you can see, I believe in multiple anchors, and lots of chain (but not all chain).

1/4 inch galvinized chain from Home Depot is all you need.

Personally I would not bother with the expensive and difficult to stow Bruce in our waters.

Agree totally about having proper ground tackle, both bow and stern. I have a small Danforth for the stern and a Bruce for the bow which stows nicely in the bow anchor locker. Bruce is all terrain, Danforth mud and sand ONLY!

I have a 16lb bruce clone on the bow roller. 20 ft of chain.
I also have a 5 lb Danforth hi-tensle in the stern locker. 10 ft of chain and 3/8 rode. I use this for lunch stops, emergencies, etc. I have even thrown this out to pull the boat away from the dock. This anchor has NEVER broken loose and surprises me every time I use it. I keep the rode and chain in a bucket with the anchor on top of it. I can have it in the water in a few seconds from the cockpit.
