I was recently told that my 86 7.5 Honda is too old and the dealer says he can't get parts for it. Has anyone had this problem and where did they find part. Also when I found this out I looked at new outboards and found a 6HP 4cycle Johnson with long shaft for a reasonable price. They list a special prop for sailboat use but I wonder if this is big enough? I would appriecate any input on this.
Your dealer sounds lazy. The HP depends on your venue, the shaft length should not. Most of us would not buy anything but an XLS shaft. You will curse the money wasted everytime it fails to meet your needs. All motors cost a lot, buy exactly what you really want, you will have it a long time.
Hi Panhead. Does you name refer to a 1948 Panhead HD? I have a 1956 Pan and love it. Can you still get parts for your 1948 Panhead??? You can still get parts for your Honda. Find a shop that is willing to work on motors instead of selling them. From all I have read, the 6HP is too small. Cheers.
