remember that I bought mine from westmarine off their ebay store so I had no chouces and th eprice was 150 with GPS. I would have gone up a click or two had I been buying off the open market. But on my lake the depth and speed are where it is at so... its all gooood.

frank,

Having bought the boat this fall and having been out of sailing for 20+ years, i have been down to my boat often and either sailing or tinkering with it. I went out sailing agian yesterday and also took a look at the potential mounting methods. Looks like I am back to your way of hook-up. The SR Mariner depth Finder actually has a 4 1/8" hole cut out and so that is too small to install a 3 Switch Waterproof Panel in that space. i am reluctant right now considering making the hole any larger. btter, cheaper and easier way to go is to fill the whole with Starboard and mount the Fish finder onto the Starboard.
Right now the Boat US Store in my area (actually believe the store part was taken over/merged with West Marine. But this is the Headquarters location for Boat US - 3 buildings including the Graphics Department for the boat lettering.) has the Matrix 17 for $179. I have my newbie coupon which gives me a $20 discount. I figured I would wait a week or so to see if they have any sales, etc.

By the way, I smudged a 1/4" x 1" part of two letters on my boat name coming into the dock. I called the Boat US Graphics Dept from work and asked if they could give me a piece of scrap material so I could repair the letters. They were going to mail it to me but I indicated that I would stop by after work since I was in the area.

They must have been slow this week (with all out for the Holidays). When I checked out the Fish Finder at the store, they have a customer service window for the Graphics Office that is adjacent to the store. When I knocked on it, I started to say that I called earlier and the woman just went right over to the Navy Blue material and cut me a ~ 5" x 1 1/2 foot piece for me. No charge. Anyway - I see that is one good reason for sometimes buying things in your area. The service with a smile is great !

Larry
