Hello, Merry Christmas, and thanks to all of you who post on this site. I have been sailing for about a year, and had recently begun looking for a boat that could be used by the entire family. Several factors were important in making the decision, and I have been greatly helped by the knowledge and experience shared on this site. So much so, in fact, that I placed an order for a new 250 WB last week (wheel steering, 135 genoa, Honda 9.9 xls), which should hopefully arive by spring.
I will pay my dues and join the assn after Jan 1, if there is any money left(I am already considering which modifications to make!)
Thanks again for all of the effort to make this site what is is.

Congrats. You won't be sorry. It's a great boat. We've had ours for six seasons now, and have been very happy with it. I'm starting to get grandchildren now, and I'm beginning to look at the Catalina 30. My 250 has most all the options, and will be sold with a Triad Trailer. After seeing the price of the new ones, I can appreciate your comment about joining the the assn, if there is anything left over.
We live in the Nashville, TN area--good sailing except in the hottest parts of summer, when lack of wind is a problem. We trailered our H170 to Florida last summer, and hope to do the same with the new 250. It's hard to beat the Gulf Coast for good beaches, and good boating.
Hey John, welcome to the forum and congrats on the purchase of a new boat.
One item in your post caught my interest, the choice of a 135 headsail on a water ballast. Previous to the '05 model, the shroud location on the water ballast restricted to a 110 headsail, which was thought to be all the boat needed except in lighter air where a drifter or asymmetrical was nice.
Please give the forum a critique about how you like the water ballast fitted with the 135. I'm the tech editor for the Mainsheet magazine and would like to make mention that the water ballast can now be fitted with a 135 and offer some owner performance opinions.
I'm not certain how the 135 will do on the 250WB, but it should be much easier than a spinnaker or gennaker, since no one else in my family has any real sailing experience, and I will effectively be sailing shorthanded most of the time. We have lots of very light wind days in Nashville, and my local Catalina dealer has assured me that I would regret getting the 110. Although the dealer is new to Catalina, he is a very experienced sailor(J22's)and a long-time figure in the local sailing community, who understands that I will probably not be racing, at least not soon. He has been VERY good to deal with in the past, and if he is wrong about the 135, I am confident that he will work with me to make it right. I will update you after a few times on the water.
By the way, one of the first upgrades I will consider is your open cable steering system. Is the hardware galvanized, stainless, or a combination?
I've had alot of boats, and we love the 250.Consider a Lazy-Jack System.(cockpit deployed)We bought ours from ezjax.com.You'll need double clutches installed from factory instead of the singles. Talk to Kent im engineering at Catalina. Steve
my 1998 250wb came with a 135, and as mentioned it is great when little or no help available. I would like to get a light air asymmetrical for those light air days we have here in the summer.
