WOW! You should have seen her! For the first time ever, never to repeated again, I put our 1985 C25, SW in the water for the first time! We have owned it since Jan. 30 and I have spent countless hours cleaning, re-doing, upgrading, and re-working it and last night it went in the watery deeps! It came off the trailer beautifully and sat there and floated! Almost brought tears to our eyes. We motored around, I only grounded it once by accident - although only slightly as I was able to back it off. (The last boat I ever motored was when I was 12, 30 years ago, so my skills are a bit rusty.) Then, I got it back to the dock on the second try with a beautiful, controlled "landing" and it went right back on the trailer without a hitch. Could you ask for anything more?
I did find that my o-rings around my knotmeter impeller leak, so I will be replacing them and putting silicone grease on the unit before this weekend when I put it in our slip for the summer. I also didn't get a plug for the knotmeter hole so I need to get one of those too.
But, it was the fruition of many years of dreaming, and many hours of work. We made it! Too much fun!
Dave and Sharon, <b><font size=6><font color=blue>Congrats!</b></font id=size6></font id=blue> Here's wishing you many years enjoyment <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> !
<i><font face='Comic Sans MS'><font face='Script MT Bold'>"Fair Winds and Following Seas", to the both of you!</font id='Script MT Bold'></font id='Comic Sans MS'></i>
Blessings and fair winds to you! We just began our second season with ours and it is a wonderful feeling to bring an old boat back to life. Ours was neglected in a boatyard for eight years before we saved her.
This year when the hoist was putting her in ther water, they needed to lift the whole rig, trailer and boat and set her in the water. It was an interesting scene.
The mast is stepped and we are on our way for the new season.
May you have as much enjoyment and adventure as we do!
Congrats! I hope you have many years of fair winds! Like you, I've done lots of work to my new baby (bought in January) before I launched her for the season. Reading your posting still puts a lump in my throat! ENJOY!
We bought a 1978 C25 SK that had not been in the water for several years. All spring we've been steadily to frantically working on her. At time feeling overwhelmed and not sure what to tackle first.
A few weeks ago the mast went up and she went into the water. AND FLOATED. Over the next few weeks Second Wind had to come out twice and have the mast stepped again. But slowly she's started cleaning up. Thanks in part to the helpful people on this forum.
Two days ago, ignoring the rain we took her out for a first shake down. It was a wonderful feeling to kill the outboard and sail.
What a learning experience this is. An sooo much fun.
Congratulations. Reading your post makes me even more excited for the day when we will be able to launch our own boat. We are about 12 months behind you since we hope to purchase a boat this coming winter. This summer I have to work on the new old house.
