The forward hatch on my '97 wing keel only opens about 75 degrees before it hits the end of the support bracket. It would be nice to open it straight up (90 degrees) to take advantage of a wind scoop while anchored out.
I'm wondering if Catalina improved on this since '97. Can anyone with a later model 250 tell me if their forward hatch opens straight up? If so, I'll just see about getting a replacement bracket from Catalina.
Dave, I just loosen the track knob and pull track apart then lay the hatch all the back when using the wind scoop. Sure is a pain to have to do it, not hard but I have to hold the hatch up with my head and use both hands to put it back together.
I've pulled the support arm apart before - and you're right, it's a bit of a pain. Seems to me there's room for a longer arm. I might try to fabricate something...
Jamestown Distributors shows several replacement hatch adjusters that adjust to 11",14" and 19". The 11" and 14" units are sold only in pairs and go for from $40.60 to $46.84 per side. The 19 " unit is a telescoping design and costs $ 22.75 per. It also mentions a closed length of 11" Don't have the WM catalog with me but they probably carry the same units. What is the Catalina adjusters length of travel? Any help? Val on the hard DAGNABIT # 3936
After taking some measurements, I realized the support arm is exactly the right length, but it was mounted partially extended so I can't get the range I need. It looks like I could just re-mount the upper end so it's fully retracted when the hatch is closed.
