It's me again. The new sailor. I thought of this on my own and ran it buy another sailor who agreed but I like the wisdom of many. Tell me what you think. You all know my keel is gone. You all know I need to get the boat out of the water for buffing etc. You all know sailboat trailers are hard to find. You all know a sailboat trailer is designed for the majority of the weight to rest on the keel. You all know the possiblity of trailering a sailboat without a keel might push in the side of the boat. Why can't I float my keeless Catalina 25 onto a pwr boat trailer and go? I'm sure the trailor will think it is a pwr boat after it sees no keel? Pwr Boat trailors are so easy to find. Somebody please tell me this crazy idea will work.
I would think that since nearly half the weight of the boat is in the missing keel you would probably be fine. The bunks or rollers on a traditional boat trailer would likely support the weight better than the four steadying pads on my fin keel trailer. The boat without keel is probably lighter and of stiffer shape/construction than any 25 foot cruiser I am aware of.
I would do it, but have the advantage of not needing to.
