I have read many posts and have a question for anyone out there. I have an 84 fixed keel standard rig Catalina 25 hull# 4600. I installed a Hood roller furler and had luft tape put in the standard 150. I have thought of getting a new head sail that is made for roller furling and am wondering if I should go to a 135 or 150. I sail in Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. I single hand alot and really enjoy my boat. Has anyone gotten sails from Cruising Direct. Hope to be at the Nationals Panhead1948

Sandusky Bay - Get a 150. You can always real it in to 135. You are going to have a lot of days when its not blowing even 5 up there and the extra cloth is a welcome. Cruising direct is a Great Company - our 150 jib is Cruising Direct.

As I think I've mentioned to you I used to dock at "Dock of the Bay" right behind the Murray Murray building. We found our boat just on the other side of the sand bar at bay point marina.

If you'll only have one sail, I'd probably suggest a 150, but, IMHO, the far better choice would be to get a 135 and a cruising spinnaker. The 135 would have better shape over a wider range of winds than the 150, except in very light air. When the wind becomes too light for the 135, you could fly the cruising spinnaker, which would move the boat much better than either the 135 or the 150. Those two sails combined would give you really nice performance over a very wide range of windspeeds. You should be able to find a nice used cruising spinnaker for a reasonable price.

Hmmm...If you already have a converted 150, then I would opt for the 135. If winds are moderate to heavy, fly the 135. If the winds are light, fly the 150 or the iron genny.

Can you refer to an outboard as the Iron Genny? Its more of an Iron Jib?
