Hi,
I just became the proud owner of a 1981 Catalina 25.

What type of ballast material is used in the fin keel (lead or cast iron)?

Congratulations, Tom!...Welcome aboard.

As to your question, lead or cast iron, it sort of depends on the year of your boat, with earlier versions being iron and later models lead. I believe your 81' fits into the iron category.

Thanks for the helpful feedback.

After many years of sailing a Catalina 27, I am finding the helm on the Catalina 25 wonderfully responsive. Looking forward to much fun sailing off Redondo Beach and some cruises to her namesake island.
