I finally installed my new 2" dia. sheaves from the Long Island fabricator, I have these insights for anyone who cares.
I installed the aft sheaves first (the ones where the divider is held in place).
Then I installed my 5/16" halyards, draping them so they extended on both ends of the mast head.
Heres the tricky part, from the top aft part of the mast head i installed the port sheave first and moved it towards the final position. Then placed the pin partially in to hold it.
Moving the starboard halyard aside i then placed the other sheave in from the same aft position. I moved the line around the sheave and working with a screw driver to move the sheave from the foward part of the mast head i aligned the pin hole. I then placed a small peg to hold this from the starboard side, then pushing the metal pin from the port side it pushed out the temporary pin. Finished it w/ a new cotter pin.
Dont forget to oil the pins prior to placement! Job was a bit tricky but they do go in and work, and plenty of clearance for the halyards!!!
Thanks, Frank--your find was a great service to many of us! I'm about to install mine, but was thinking of a little white grease inside (to last a little longer than oil). Do you suppose your source would like to be a supplier to Catalina Direct? They need help on this.
