It's my first time posting photos, so I appologize for the size of these images. The length of the front bar is 104", the aft bar is 80", and the crossbar is 77", but try to custom fit it to your boat. TIP: Once you bend the pvc pipe it gets a memory. If you need to cut pipe after it is bent you should cut some off each end.
I'm suprised that Frank was the only one who reponded. I was expecting more responses, good and bad. It might be to "getto" some and just right for others. Peace, out. Barry
Hi Berry, I am just now seeing these pics. It looks good! I wonder if you could get more height if you used those colapsing fiberglass tent poles. They are fairly cheap at Bass Pro Shop. Cheers.
Thats a great idea! With the PVC it's easy to tweak by cutting. You could customize it to your needs. My set-up is about 4" blow the boom and the main sheet clears by 2". I also have a Taylor made tent when I'm docked and want more headroom.
Nice work on this. I might use this idea to keep the sun at bay during the coming summer. Question: What the hey is that white stuff all over the ground? Must be salt buildup of some sort.....
By the way, just because one or another post gets fewer responses, doesn't in any way mean it was unappreciated. I read a lot more than I write here. As soon as I saw your excellent photos, I saved them for future reference.
As for "getto," here in the hurricane zone, blue poly tarps carry no stigma. I've seen blue tarps disparaged on other sailing BBS, but those same folks look down upon Catalinas in general, so obviously their opinion is of no particular relevance here. I'd expect if you posted this on Trailer Sailor BBS, it would be received with enthusiasm.
I like the design a lot. Although I have a traditional bimini w/SS frame, etc, I use a silver poly tarp as a boom tent/deck awning w/PVC pipe battens, or ribs, to spread it out into more of a bimini-like curve vs. a sagging pup tent shape. For our fashion conscious readers, let me point out poly tarps are now available in several designer colors from such trendy boutiques as Harbor Freight.
What is that white clumpy stuff on your boat deck and on the ground in your photos? For some reason, I can't say that I've seen any of that down here where I live...
Wolfgang Edition Bimini...I've read about these but yours is the first I've seen....Thanks. I'm about to start my second season with my C25 and have already spent my limit on new batteries and the like so the bimini was going to go on next year's budget, but now I think I'll try to make one for myself.
Being at the same marina, I too made the 'Wolfgang' bimini (named after the inventor, another local sailor) for my 25 - total cost - $12.45 at the hardware store including pipe, tarp, and pipe-tightening thingies. Nice job on the photos Barry! You'll have to teach me how to do that. (Didn't Frank post a tutorial on that a while back?)
