I've owned my C25, '85 for five years and I have to say I love those ugly old brown cushions!! I have no itention of changing them for awhile. My rationale is that I have an eleven year old daughter who brings her friends when we go sailing. They go below and eat and drink in wet bathing suits. Stuff gets spilled, stuff goes flying... I don't feel the need to hassle them at all. They have a great time and I'm relaxed so I'd call that a good day of sailing! Someday we'll have beautiful new cushions and I'll be a pain to everyone and they'll wish we had the ugly old brown ones back!
I recovered my old ugly plaid cushions myself with blue denim from Jo Annes. I did about 1 cushion per night. Easy to do while watching TV. I also recovered the cockpit cushions with marine vinyl from Jo Annes. I just sewed bags and stuffed the old cushions in. Blue jean material - nothing to worry about there, a little sand, salt, water, no problem. The whole project cost about $200 and took 2 weeks.
Like you my boat is for fun not a palace too nice to get dirty or wet.
Probably I am the cheapskate in the group, but I made "seat covers" for mine. Bought closeout upholstry fabric on sale, sewed "covers" that were grommeted and then LACED on the back. That way I left the old vinyl side down. They actually looked pretty good and added some decent color to my interior. The corners were just "wrapped", however, like a Christmas present. Next time, I will sew a more permanent "corner.
This was 6-7 years ago, and they could stand to be redone, I suppose, but it is a CHEAP fix. I think my whole job cost around $50-60 or so at the time...

For my old boat, I cannot justify the cost of $1500 or so for "new cushions"; I could buy a very nice hi-tech racing 155% genoa for less!
