I'm looking at a cruising spinnaker for my boat, and need to know whether it will fit. My understanding is that the rule of thumb is that the luff can be as much as 10% longer than the boat's I measurement. Is that correct? My boat has an I of exactly 42'. Will a cruising spinnaker with a luff length of 43' fit my boat? The sail comes with an ATN spinnaker sleeve that is 42' long. Will that also work on my boat? I think they will both fit, but I'd appreciate confirmation from someone who has used a cruising spinnaker and sleeve, before I spend the retirement money that I wait so patiently for the postman to put in my mailbox each month. (All my life I looked forward to the time when I could whine about being on a fixed income.)

That should work. I'd prefer something in the 42.5 range as the max, but 10% on an asym is a good rule of thumb. Most places have a 10 day return policy where you only incur the shipping costs if you don’t like the sail. I’d also buy some ripstop nylon spin repair tape. Regardless of noted condition on the used loft sites, there are usually a few pin holes that they didn’t spot that you will have to deal with. I just bought a used spin and had to patch a couple of expected pinholes.
