Anyone ever insulate their icebox and cover ??? I'm thinking of using blue board where I can reach, spray foam where I can't, and rebuild the cover with starboard and blue board with a rubber casket. And after more saving, it will be time for a compressor and evaporator. Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated... this forum rocks.
Mark: I've considered it but in keeping with the KISS program I found a plastic container that fit the bottom of the cooler well enough that I could use to freeze a large block of ice. I then found a "space blanket" or super thin aluminum foil type rescue blanket at the local camp store and refold it so it slips in on top of all the items in the cooler. The combination of ice block at the bottom along with regular ice cubes and the insulation "blanket" on the top extends and enhances the cooler tremndously to the point that I set aside trying to spray foam or other techniques. Try it one hot weekend and you'll be surprised how it improves the cooler performance. Ron
Hi Mark, I opted for turning that into storage and buying the Igloo Extreme cooler. It is supose to be good for five days but really only good for three.....which is better than I could ever get the factory icebox to do. Cheers.
On my boat, the PO used pieces of styrofoam sheets to form a box around the outside of the icebox from underneath the counter that left a 1"-3"gap between the icebox and styrofoam. He then used non-expanding spray foam insulation to fill the gap.
