Has anyone here used a product called Plasteak for replacement of some teak items? I am considering using it for the rails of the sliding cabin hatch and perhaps for the cabin top hand rails. I've seen a sample of the product and it is pretty much indestructible and is worked using ordinary woodworking tools. It must be mechanically secured because glues won't adhere to it. The website is http://www.plasteak.com

Plasteak is a good product and friends of mine have seen plasteak for both teak floors and rails etc. It is similarily comparable to the composite backyard deck stuff. From what I've beentold 4 or 5 years later it weathers very well.
From what I know per the same friend (togue in cheek) the Hunter engineers spilled the bong water on the plans prior to building their cruising classes

Does anyone know what Plasteak products cost? I might consider replacing the hatch sliders, handrails, and companionway trim if not too expensive. I did note that you have to send them your original pieces, as templates, so your boat would have quite a few empty bolt holes in the roof, leaking rainwater, until the order is completed and the pieces come back. They note that since the product is basically molded polypropylene (recycled 1-gallon milk jugs), adhesives do not stick to it, so that you could use 3M 5200 as sealant and still be able to easily remove the parts later.
I have the teak and holly flooring material to use for the cabin sole of our boat. I am in the process of building and finishing the sole. I really like the flooring material, Its also listed as Lionseal. I 38 bucks a ft. x6' wide. I don't remember where I bought it from but it was a lot cheaper than a 4x8 plywood piece, well the material was about the same cost but the shipping was allot cheaper. 175.00 vs 30 bucks.
I will take some photos this week, I didnt get the deadline for the last mainsheet, so after June 1st I will post some good info on the flooring. Is it alright to pre publish what I am going to publish to the mainsheet? I just got my log in stuff from Mainsheet last week.
