Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning the stains left by birds and other creatures on the cockpit and cabin deck? I have tried "Lime Away" and it really didnt do much to rid the stains.
I accidentaly spilled fuel on the deck AND walked in it with my boat shoes (which by the way WILL disolve in fuel). This made a big mess which I could not get up any way, any how. However it seems that the SUN has taken care of what I could not, after about 4 months the stain has 'gone away'!
See my previous posts on Ultra Brite toothpaste. I cannot speak highly enough of the ease and quality in using it. Use a stiff nylon brush on non-skid, a wet rag on the stainless and rinse thoroughly(sp), you will be amazed!! It is easier than raising the main, and eco friendly.
Sunshine does work and beyond that good wax protection will help avoid the stains. My struggle was the nonskid that never got waxed and finally after using Starbright cleaner/sealer for non skid, life has gotten better.
Grit doesn't lodge in the nonskid and grow mildew after the sealer and I've detected no slippery issues.
In lovely Norhteast Florida the sea gulls, turkey buzzards, osprey's and spiders do there best to make PennyII look like an outhouse. The best and cheapest I have found requires a trip to Wally World were I purchase the cheapest liquid dishwashing soap. Then blend one cup with one gallon H2O and a stiff brisle brush. Apply to deck, allow to sit for a couple of minutes then brush and rinse. Another item that a lot of people use around our neck of the woods is a tolet bowl cleaner called "The Works". We pick it up at the dollar store. Sponge it on and rinse. Be sure and wear rubber gloves. I have use it to remove the water stains at the boot stripe. Works better than FSR and a great deal cheaper. For the stains just apply to sponge wipe and rinse. Stains gone.
Tom, let me know what you think. I suspect there are skeptics out there because it sounds so off-the-wall. It really is the only thing I use to clean with now.
Dave, I broke down and bought a 97 cent tube of ultra bright tooth past and found a old tooth brush. Your right! it cleans those hard to clean spots and smells good afterwards.
Tom, thanks for the report. If you use a large nylon brush, you will clean areas much easier and faster, leaving alot more time for sailing. I use a screw-on pole head for the whole deck, it is amazingly fast. (and you won't grab the wrong brush in the bath ) Spread the paste, err, word!
