I had my third generation rudder repaired by Catalina when the forward edge split. It seems now that they have reglassed the rudder, it is too wide to fit the metal piece that holds the tiller to the rudder. Any suggestions about how to fix this problem?
I don't think adding shims will help him, since as he stated, "it is too wide" at the tiller attachment point. The only thing I might try before the belt sander is to see if I could put the bracket in a vise and spread it enough to fit. If that doesn't work then try sanding with 1600 grit sand paper using plenty of water. You did not say how much wider, so it is tough to figure what to do exactly.
