This past Oregon winter as done a real number on my main halyard. It now as a very noticable green shade which when it rains, leaves a not so nice green/black stain on the cabin top.I've been thinking of using a mild bleach solution to clean it with, just not sure if this would effect the intrgerity. If there's a better method any help would be appreciated
Although I haven't done this, I've heard of people putting their lines in a mesh laundry bag then tossing them into the washing machine. I wouldn't machine dry them though, just let them air dry.
Thanks Don,I guess I should have mentioned I have a rope/wire halyard. Not so sure my wife would appreciate the clanking and banging in the washer. Now 8 months ago when I was single, NO PROBLEM.

In that case, I think I'd just replace them with all rope halyards, especially if they are of suspect condition and age.
They are stupid old technology and a safety hazard to boot. Buy new all rope halyards, lighter, stronger, safer. My 82 came with wire to rope and I had severe problems with them jamming under the lower shroud/spreader fitting. After my first sail I swore I would replace them immediately. Welcome to the forum, we as a group are focused on several things. Making our old boats as safe and valuable as possible is a prime focus. For a lot of us that made new halyards that are led back to the cockpit as one of our highest priorities. You will see how I did it on both my 25s if you labor through the pages of the site in my sig.
