Kind Folks:
Somewhere, I've seen plans for a cone-like bag to store your jib while its still hanked to the forestay. But I can't remember where, and a search of our C-25 forums turns up blank. Can anybody help? Many thanks.

I believe West Marine carries on made by Taylor Made. The Catelina 110 fits inside nicely. Anything bigger does not.

I wouldn't consider using one for storing your jib for more than a few hours. They clean up the fore deck nicely for temporary anchoring however, they cause a lot of windage in a "blow" and make the boat jump around the anchor more than normal. Also, as they age the velcro closure begins to erode and the wind tends to blow it open, releasing your sail to blow all over the place. Still, they're a good investment for their intended purpose, a short stopover.

The forestay bag is nice for cruising, when you want to simplify sail bagging and storage after a long day in the sun. I made an oversized sausage bag out of sunbrella that also works well. It has a zipper that runs its full length. When you want to bag the sail, you completely unzip the bag, pull it under the loosely-folded sail, wrap it around the sail and zip it up. It's very quick, and you can leave the sail hanked on if you wish. Because it is oversized, you don't have to stuff the sail tightly into it, as you do with some bags.

Steve,
Sounds great, as Stan asked, do you have a pattern for your bag? If so I would like a copy if available.

I bought one of the larger West Marine bags, and my 150 jenny will fit in it, too. The bag is so-so in construction -- I need the stitching redone on the zipper. The bag material is Sunbrella, and seems to be holding up well.

If you have the skill, it's WAY cheaper to do it yourself.

Matt,

The bag is 60” long and 18” in diameter. It has a rope drawstring at the opening. Sorry, I don't have a pattern. I just ad-libbed it.
