I'm new at using this forum. For some reason I can't find my original posted message Previously I posted a notice about replacing curtains in a Catlina 25 model 1981. My wife has become weary sewing those little original track slides on new curtains Does anyone have any suggestions for replacing the original style curtains with a different system.
Hi Ben, I am using two fiberglass poles that we here in the north use to mark driveways and road for the snow plows. They are 10' X 1/4" Just sew over the curtain top and bottom, slid them on the two poles and screw the poles above and below the ports. You can span the two ports with this length poles. You do need to stand them off a bit and can use a peice of 1/2 dowl rod slices 3/4 inch long, with a hole drilled in the center for the screw. Cheers.
I made curtains with the fabric folded over along the top and the bottom, and then I threaded a bungie cord through each fold. I installed brass eyestraps at the end of each window, bottom and top, then strung bungie cord between the eyestraps with stopper knots at each end.
'Worked great, and it was easy to do ... believe me, I'm no "seamstress."
BTW, your original topic was posted in the "Test" section of the Forum ... this is a much better place for it ... more people will read it here.
Ben: I took a different approach because I did not like the way the strips of curtains took up so much space and made the cabin feel smaller. I wanted something to just cover the window(s) and usually keep mine uncovered unless sleeping aboard. I found some thin opaque plastic that I cut to size for each window using velcro squares to attach each panel to each window and then coverd the non velcro side of the plastic with contact paper from Target. So far they seem to keep their "stick". I will be sewing cotton "pockets" with snaps for them to be stored behind the upright cushions on their respective sides and since the plastic is so thin it should not be a problem under the cushions.....but for now they rest on the shelves just below he windows. Ron
There is a post somewhere on the site under the 250 forum that discussed new curtains. I followed there method on my 25 - 1980 and it worked excellant. Some screen moulding and plastic pipe. Perfect!!
Check it out there. Someone should be able to provide the link I am just not sure how to do it.
