Hi, my name is Dave. I live in Michigan and sail on Lake St. Clair. My wife Julie and I just bought a C25 this year. We were wondering if someone in the Nautical Mile area might have the time to show us a few tips on how to sail our 25. Her name is Compass Rose and she's a TR/FK. Anyhow, I have been reading this site for many months and quite honestly it is what got me through the winter this year.
Dave Otey "Compass Rose" Hull 6029 '91 TR FK Clinton Township, MI Member at Large Clinton River Catalina Association Fleet #3 Sail on Lake St Clair
Hi Dave Welcome to the group, and congratulations on your wise purchase. I see from your bio that you are closer to retirement than me, you lucky guy
I also see that your hull number is in the 6000's, so it must be a "Mark IV" model. That qualifies you to be a member of fleet 89, so as self appointed Grand Poobah of the fleet, Welcome again. New members buy the first round
Hi Dave... I'm new here too, just about to make the leap into a 25 after being drydocked for too many years. I see we are neighbors, I'll probably be docked in Blossom Heath next year...
Hi Dave, what is your daily schedule like? I teach online and don't have to get on until 5 or 6 at night so I have days free. I am going up north the Lewiston this weekend but any other time we should go sail. Cheers.
I sail and race a C25 TR/FK out of Bayview YC on the Detroit river. We regularly get up into Lake St. Claire, and would be happy to meet up to sail together. Being in the area, I could go out with you for sail sometime. Of course, you are welcome to come on down for a race with us as well. A perfect 'beginners race' is Bayview's off the dock racing on Thursdays - next race the 27th. You learn tremendous amounts racing, and Thursday nights are really low key - they club even throws a keg of beer on the lawn after the race!
Drop me an email or give a call 313 (chillin') 253 5336 at the office. I would love to help you out.
Jeez, another Dave... Well, welcome, Dave and Julie! I can see you're already in good hands, as can be expected here. Keep in touch--there are always questions, experiences, etc... The '89-90 C-25 is one of the nicest 25-footers built by anybody, and the tall-fin makes her the thoroughbred of the C-25 line. As an early priority, have somebody show you about reefing her--you have a more powerful rig than you might need most of the time in that area, as beginning sailors. No point in scaring yourselves.
I can recommend retirement! I tried it starting last November, and can only say, don't wait any longer than you have to! Nobody knows how short life is! (My lovely Admiral didn't make it.)
Welcome to a newcomer from another. We purchased our c-25 in March and have been out about a half a dozen times. We love the boat and it was in great shape when we bought her. We are installing a harken furler purchased from another Cat owner. Can't wait till the heat of July and August is behind us. We are scheduled to have 104 today and 103 tomorrow.
