For some reason, a couple of the dome light covers on my C250 were broken when I bought it. I've tried taping them in place, but inevitably they will fall off due to temperature variations and jostling while sailing.
Does anyone know the manufacturer of these lights and where I might get replacements and/or parts?
I don't know about exact replacements other then calling Catalina. I replaced all my interior lights with RV two bulb lamps. I put in LED bulbs so I can go from OFF/WHITE/RED. The LEDs are from a small company right here in the valley. I have their website on my other laptop but they have a good product at a reasonable price.
Seafit makes it, the "economy dome light". One of mine cracked on the edge too and fell off. I have not tried to contact them about replacement covers however West Marine sells the whole light for under $10 bucks. I bought a new one and it cracked 3 weeks later. I just used white electrical tape and ran it around the edge.
Hmmmm ..... this isn't too encouraging that a new light fixture is prone to breaking like the two broken ones I now have.
I replaced the fixture over the sink/breaker panel area with one similar to what Andy suggested ... it uses incandescent bayonet bulbs that look to me to be car tailight bulbs. The "red" bulb was just coated with some "paint" to turn it red. The trouble here is that the replacement fixture doesn't match the others on the boat and looks out of place to me. A set of new fixtures with LED bulbs is appealing, but I think there are three dome lights plus LED bulbs that adds up to a bit more effort and $ than I think I want to spend right now. Thanks for the reference to the LED bulbs though .... very interesting. Which ones did you get and how's the illumination? I've read through the post on replacing the festoon lamps with LEDs and that seems to work well.
Max, The only cover that has gave me trouble is the one in the aft berth. I think the light was not mounted flush(base has a bow) which does not allow the lens to fit proper and causes the lens to crack. Also this light is right under the starboard coaming area where we board and depart from. The constant pounding of feet may have played a role. But the tape is holding well, the white tape and being back aft makes it hard to see. Love the LEDs festoons. I installed them in all the cheapo dome lights, both red and white. I tried the Amber's but they were not bright enough for me.
