I don't have a picture handy, but perhaps someone knows what this thing is for. On my boat, an '86 TR/FK, I have a wire cable (approximately 3/8" wire) about 2 feet in length. There are loops at both ends of the cable. The length of the cable is plastic coated - like life lines. I wondered if this cable is attached to the tack of a Jib to raise the foot of the Jib above the deck. (I don't know why one would want to do that other than to increase visibility under the jib) So, I tried it yesterday and, yep, it looked pretty dumb and I took it off. Anyone have any ideas what the thing is for?

3/8" wire seems a bit much for a tack extender. Seems more suitable for an outboard tether.

I second Don's guess. Can't imagine it being used for anything else.

What Kind of outhaul do you have? Did the DPO make it internal? Though 3/8ths is pretty darn big!

otherwise I like the outboard tether idea.

Well, Actually, as I think about it, the cable is more like 3/16ths" It was sitting below - not attached to the original motor. The previous owner just had a length of 1/4" line for the outhaul. I've never heard of a "Tack Extender" does such a thing exist?

Actually, a more proper term would be a "tack pennant" which could be used for sails like a cruising spinnaker.

As was previously alluded to, I assume it's for padlocking the motor to the mount...or the motor mount to the bracket...or whatever.
