Anyone going to the Annapolis sailboat show?

My son and I will be there for the 2nd year in a row--there is really nothing like it.

Where are you staying, or are you local?

Last year, my son and I met Jerry Douglas and Frank Butler while waiting on the shuttle bus at the Loew's!!

My wife and I will be there for the third year. We love it and also get to site-see the area.

The hotel situation in and around Annapolis is very expensive this year. Last year we were able to stay near the airport for about $68 a night. This year through Priceline all I could get was $149/night. Forget staying in Annapolis. The rates are $300 - 400 / night and most are booked already.

We will be at the Embassy Suites at the airport. Breakfast is free (that will save you a little) and you get a free drink at night! It is a wonderfull 4 star hotel with a living room and bedroom. Most of the hotels near the airport (BWI) still have rooms available although their rates have gone up for the show. Four Points Sheriton is another in the same price range.

I sail about 5 miles south of Annapolis and live about 1.5 hours away, so I'm pretty much local.

I just went to the Newport show (and bought a boat). Basically all the boats go from there to Annapolis--powerboats stopping in Norwalk this weekend.

As I recall, Catalina was showing the 28, 309, 350, 400, and one or two others... I liked the 309 with its huge cockpit and folding wheel. (In the 28, I had to step up on a seat to get around the wheel.) My favorite, however, was a big Alerion. (...didn't buy that.) Worst (sail) was a Benneteau euroglop something-or-other. (...didn't even want to be seen going aboard.)

Sweet dreams!

I'll be there. My first time was circa 1980. I bought my first set of foul weather gear there--best $99 ever spent!

I may not be able to come but actually will be passing that way on that weekend. I am registered for the Seagull Century (Bike Ride) starting in Salisbury, MD which is on Rte 50 going east past Annapolis and then continues about an hour south of Annapolis until reaching Salisbury. I have been doing this century ride for ~14 years. The ride goes over the bridge to Assateague Natl Park and then meanders back to the University. I have a hotel reserved for Friday and Saturday nights at Ocean City (which is 1/2 hr east of Salisbury). The ride starts on Saturday early morning. I then go back to Ocean City to join my wife and enjoy a day or so at the beach.

My wife was not thrilled about staying another day to go to the boat show. She enjoys sailing but only for limited time and that goes for a sailboat sow as well. She's also concerned I may buy things for the boat or get bigger ideas.

By the way...I do a number of bike ride routes in the Southeastern, MD area and one that I do occasionally starts at the Blackwater Natl Wildlife Refuge Park in Cambridge, Md (which is between Salisbury and Annapolis. Anyway, last time I stopped in the Visitor Center, I picked up a canoe map. The park has marshlands all over it and what they have done is lay out 3 canoe routes with bouy markers (and GPS waypoints) for any that want to explore some of the marshlands by canoe. Sometime, I hope to do one of those routes with my Sevylor inflatable canoe. That and the boat show !

Larry, those are my family stomping grounds. Our farm is on 313 between Finchville and Eldorado, and we have family in Salisbury, Ocean City, Cambridge, and all over the place.

I'll be at the boat show on Friday, commuting from home in Richmond.

Instead of going "not going" to the boat show on Monday (Holiday), I may be able to talk my wife into going on friday. I think the boat show is open all day Friday ? I was planning on taking off friday this time because leaving after work was terrible traffic over the bay bridge. Taking off friday and getting an early start....I would be passing Annapolis anyway...that's a possibility. I have to check the hours for the Boat Show on friday but if it is open at say 12noon and beyond, then getting there soon after it starts sounds like best possibility for me.

So...for those that go...what are you going to do to recognize each other...wear a Catalina Assoc Logo ?

The boat show opens on Thursday (VIP day) and goes through Monday. I usually go on Friday, which is less crowded than the weekend. Monday is also less crowded, and is good for negotiating special deals. To be a VIP, all you need to do is shell out a few extra bucks for a VIP ticket. No invitation required.

Looks like I will be able to stop by the Annapolis Boat Show afterall !

I leave for my Seagull Century Bike Ride on Friday and staying overnight in Ocean City at a hotel on the Boardwalk (for 2 nights). But the ride is not till Saturday morning. The plan is now for us to leave at tail end of Friday morning rush hour and stop at the Boat Show in Annapolis on the way to Ocean City. I guess we will be at the show on Friday from about 12noon till 3pm or so.

I will probably be wearing my blue cap with a small sailboat and dog embroidered on the front and "Outerbanks" on the back.

I'm hoping to go on Friday. The Catalina display is always a good rendezvous point. Anyone want to suggest a time to meet up and say hello? Unless it's freezing, I'll be wearing a blue jersey with a Catalina 250 logo on it - from our ships store!

My son and I are staying at the Loew's Annapolis from Wednesday thru probably Saturday. Would love to meet some people there; the Catalina display is a good spot. Andrew and I LOVE the Italian restaurant near the City Dock (?Aroma d'Italia?) We will likely be there EVERY DAY for lunch and gelato.

I just realized that the show is on Monday which also happens to be Columbus Day. I'm off from work that day, so that's when I plan to attend the show. Anyone else going on Monday?

Looks like I'll be making it on Friday after all. I'm working longer shifts earlier in the week and will take off early Friday and head over to the boat show in the morning.

Actually now that they are forecasting a high around 50F and showers all day Friday, I am thinking I may wait until Monday after all. Monday is supposed to be around 75F and sunny which I think would make the outdoor show more enjoyable.

Looks like a good bit of rain Friday. I really wanted to go Friday because my thought was that the crowds will not be quite so bad that day. The thing is that I am heading that way Friday anyway. So...as we go by the Annapolis area, we will make a last minute decision to don our foul weather gear and make a go of it on Friday or perhaps delay it until we return from the east coast and pass the Annapolis area again on Sunday. I plan to be sailing on Monday.

I'm punting. Wandering docks in a nor'easter is not my idea of fun. It's a sign for me to be thankful for and content with my C25.
