I seem to recall a thread with regards to a C25 leaning towards the port side. I have noticed that my 85 SK indeed leans this way, and have been unable to locate this thread.
I have not filled my starboard potable water tank as of yet. Is this a typical occurence on the catalina, or should i be investigating elsewhere?
Frank, The "lean" or "list" that is usually discussed here was on the early models produced in the late 70s. I've never heard this to be an inherent issue with mid 80s models. What's your interior layout?
Its a traditional interior and it's an 84 not an 85 model year. Next I will be dreaming of a C35 or something
A list to port was characteristic of the pre-1980's C-25's, when the motor was mounted on the port side of the boat. When Catalina started mounting the motor on the starboard side, after about 1980, the list to port was cured. If yours lists to port, it has to be because of unequal distribution of weight of items stored on the boat, or because of a modification made by a previous owner that significantly changed the balance of the boat.
Look in the port-side cockpit locker, and also in the port-side cabin or settee locker, to see what is buried in there. Also, if you have a toilet waste tank, instead of a porta-potty, it might need to be emptied.
Filling the water tank should reduce or eliminate the list to port, but I believe the C-25 is designed to be balanced with the water tank empty.
I would indeed look around and redistribute moveable items to help balance your boat and/or fill your water tank. I have a 1980 SR/FK with the portside motor mount and I do not have the port list that some people experience. I really don't believe that the weight of the motor, by itself, would cause a noticeable list. The reasoning being is that the motor is mounted quite near the centerline of the boat and would more likely affect the fore and aft balance rather than port and starboard. On my boat, the motor and tank are on the port side and the batteries and water tank are to starboard. This arrangement seems to balance out the boat quite well. If my motor, fuel tank, water tank, and batteries were all on the starboard side, I think then I would have a problem with listing.
