WHAT IS THE GOOSENECK FOR. IS ITS ONLY PURPOSE TO HOLD THE BOOM TO THE MAST.

. . . including allowing the aft end of the boom to swing up and down to manipulate sail shape and port to starboard for trim and sliding the gooseneck up and down to adjust luff tension.
Is this one of those trick questions <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> ?
