Okay I'm dreaming of warmer weather and thinking of getting ready for it. I've seen the above product on other boats (other then the 250) and was impressed. Does anyone have experience with fitting this to the 250? The product is a little spendy but experience is telling me that if you need it, some good shade is worth a lot......on the hook or sitting in the slip. On a sunny day the temperature to the touch on the underside of my plastic tarp is hot enough to burn. Held my hand to the underside of this product on another boat and it was cool. Would appreciate any experience anyone may have had with the product. Thank you!
Have you considered a bimini instead? Then you could have some shade while sailing too. Although, because of our travelers, a bimini won't cover the whole cockpit. Then again, the shade you linked to will stop somewhere short of the end of your boom - seems like most of it covers your cabin top, where you won't be sitting. Just my 2 cents worth...
Here is a picture of a Shadetree awning on my C250 with the awning slid forward. I bought awning in 2004 after seeing it on another C250.
My awning has a three foot slit on the aft for sliding back over the cat seats...slit is for back stay and has a velcro seal. These awnings are made to your specs when you order it. The awning is very adjustable...you can have it over the mast or under the mast...tilt it from side to side when the sun comes in low. Holds up in high winds while under way ...dosn't flap and slap very quite.
Thank you Dave and Paul. I appreciate the information and suggestions. Paul, do you know if yours is the model 215 (size wise)?
Just saw some Friday Harbor photos taken in November - lots of snow and ice. Guess they had a few big gales come through too. Was it the same in Anacortes Paul? We sailed out of Bellingham through the Islands in late Sept. for a week and the weather, sailing and scenery were perfect. You're in a beautiful area!
