Just wondering what the avg cost to store our boats in marinas??

I am currently paying $221 a month in central texas. Best deal on the same lake is $175 but I don't like the other marinas due to long stairs to access the boat.

Up here in Ohio we have a limited 5 month season for sailing. I have found the "best kept secret" in the marina we are at. It is actually a small club. We have 18 acres made up of pavilions, picnic areas, 2 tennis courts, boat ramp, playground, parking, clubhouse, 12 docks and 21 moorings. Beautiful 1 1/2 x 10 mile Lake Mosquito. Cost: $125 / YEAR! Limited membership (200 families) and on a weekend you might see 30 people out there. Did I mention we have sailboat races every Monday night with 20-25 boats participating each race? The place is a great find. Storage over the winter: Free.

Wow Turk, that is nice! A little further south in Columbus, Ohio we are able to sail 7 months out of the year in Alum Creek Reservoir. For that we pay $875.00 per year, with no electric or water at the docks, a nice restroom/shower/dumpstation facility and picnic and shelter areas.

We have 138 slips, and we even have a waiting list of 20+ people. We have Wednesday Night races all season, and a handful of other regattas as well, all of which cost extra.

Less than 3 months until Splash Day!!!!! Happy New Years everyone, and...

Go Bucks!!!

Turk -- we have at least 7 months April through October. Most seasons 8... I've sailed to many a November Browns game and docked at the R&Roll Hall of Fame.

The main fees after initiation of 4k, dues and minimum spending:
storage 450 - (lengthXBeamX2.25)includes in and out, mast step and mast storage...
21 bucks a dock foot per season- or 880 bucks a season

The closest 25 foot dock at a comparable facility (It's a private marina, not a members only club.) is $3000 a season for dockage and actually measures 24.5 feet. The next size up is around 3500.

Docks have water and electricity.
Club has restaurant, bar, chart room, pavillion, gas, diesel, pumpout etc. 3 Hoists, one travel-lift etc, etc.

Wednesday racing 20-60 boats
Sunday Racing 30-60 boats
4 one design fleets

As far as our sailing season goes, you have to be ready all year round. You never know when you will get a nice warm day with sunshine. We had 72 degrees the Friday after Turkey Day and my son, two of his friends, and myself sailed most of the afternoon. It was great.

As far as dock fees are concerned, we pay $140.00 per month. It is figured by X dollars per slip foot. We have a public bathroom (for marina residents only) with showers, power at the slip, but water and pump outs are at the main dock separate from the area where the sailboats are kept. We do have water for washing down the boats, but not for drinking.

We have swingers in $400 slips but most of us are in $600 slips
potable water and electricity is at every slip, this year people with air conditioning have a $100 sur charge at the slip.

I have Air Conditioning so I pay
$700 for the slip
$160 for the yard space
$407 for annual membership

That is $1260/yr and my bill has gone up $400 in the last 2 years.
We used to be a wonderful deal but we built a clubhouse that is much more than it needed to be and now we are a typical deal.
Oklahoma is looking pretty good to a lot of members.

We sail on Lake Guntersville in north Alabama, our marina fees are $105 per month. We have year round sailing, with winter having 60-70 degree days pretty often. We have electricity and water at each slip and free pumpout, nice bath house and club membership comes with the slip.
happy New Year and happy Sailing!

Brian,
As you post and read more you will find that people will nearly always need more info to properly reply to a question. I am not certain what you are getting for $221/mo.

Ok.. Our marina has like 180 wetslips. Restrooms w/showers. Power and potable water at each slip. Docks are concrete flooring, so no worn out wood or anything. Here in Texas we sail year arround. The most people I have ever seen out using their boats at 1 time is about 4 maybe 5. Marina is packed with boats, most just rotting away from lack of use. Good part to me is I don't have to deal with to many people at the restroom/showers... The marina has ramps down to the docks instead of stairs allowing for easy gear loading.

There is also a bar/food joint right there in the parking lot... Free pump out/self service here. Repair guy on staff there @ $80 per hour. Thats about all I can think of. Marina is really nice and most of the time we will swim right behind the boat in the marina after a good day of sailing.

I sail on Fern Ridge Lake in Eugene, Oregon. The slip fees for our 6 month sailing season at the Eugene Yacht Club are $250 for the season ($10/foot). Winter storage is $73. It costs $750 to join and then $375 per year dues. Each family must also put in 20 hours of "work party" time each year (or pay $22/hr). It is a very nice club, beautiful grounds, good security (full-time caretaker), a very good week-long sail school each June, and lots of racing if you like that. Slips have water and power included.

At my marina in Staten Island N.Y.the summer (30 foot slip) and winter contracts for my boat go for just a bit over $4600 including haulout, jackstand rental and bottom washing.

There's a much more expensive marina just across the harbor.

Edited to add, electricity is metered.

The state of Ohio controls our lake along with quite a few others in Ohio. They do not allow moorings or docks in until May 1st and all must be pulled by October 1st. That gives us a shortened season of 5 months. Guess I could always head up your way and sail a few more times!

Urbanna Yachting Center, Urbanna, Va: $ 1100 for the slip per year, with water and electricity. Showers are about 75 feet from my boat.

Hauling, powerwashing, blocking the boat for the winter, and relaunching in the spring is $ 19/foot.

At Leschi Marina on Lake Washington in Seattle, it worked out to about $160/month for a 25' slip, with electricity and potable water. This is a city run marina. There was a bathroom with showers, but it was a 10 minute walk north of our slip, so we'd just use the one in the nearby restaurant. The docks were all not-quite-rotting wood with nails popping out, and at least one slip was mostly underwater. I kept a hammer on board to keep the nails flush on the docks. However, the guy who ran it was very good about taking care of his customers, the security guard was equally so, and I had good neighbors. We watched out for each other's boats, loaned tools, etc. About the only bad experience I can remember is someone "borrowed" my wash down nozzle I kept in the cockpit.

There's about a 3 year waiting list to get in.

Now my moorage is my side yard and driveway. Still trying to sell my old boat.

Out here on eastern Long Island, between the twin forks, $4,800 gets you a seasonal slip w/ water only and winterizing to include hauling, unstepping, power washing, blocking, shrink wrapping, OB winter care, spring stepping and launching. Showers, lavatories, BBQ/picnic area.

About $105 per month here. Year round sailing though it's chilly in the winter... heh, actually it's only mid-60's in the summer too. Floating concrete docks, shorepower, 24x7 security patrol, laundromat, oil dump, hot showers ($.25) etc. A very nice place.

"Fern Ridge Lake in Eugene, Oregon." Ah yes... sailed there courtesy of Bruce Ebling... it is gorgeous.

Here at the largest marina in the US, it cost me $1465 per year. Its nice to have all the bells and whistles that comes with a big marina, but all that just means more boats to dodge on the lake. The scary part is this marina is just one of about a haft dozen marinas on the lake.

HOLY CRAP!! I should've taken Passage to Ohio and paid the weekly airfare to get there!

(I just looked at a map of Mosquito Lake--10 miles directly N to S, so on a normal day, it's a broad reach all the way to the N. end, and a close reach all the way back. Not bad!)

Your right! We can sail all the way north and back - one tack. It's a beautiful thing at night with a few good friends and a few bottles of wine! Auto pilot makes it even better. We've done it many a time.

Anyone who would like to visit - you are welcome. Anyone who would like to join - there are 1 to 2 membeships available each month. About $1000, one time charge. You actually will own 1/200 of the deed. Can sell it later for about the same amount. Now for those of you who think that an opportunity has availed itself, you can only own one share. You cannot buy up all the memberships and open your own marina for $200,000. :)

OUCH! I really feel for you folks. Here in Northern Michigan on Portage Lake, with access to Lake Superior, I have four options, the county marina at $460 per season (usually about 6 months)with dockside water, electricity cable TV, and telephone hookups, a fuel dock, and a boat ramp; a privately owned and operated marina with the same price but without any amenities; my club's marina which is just starting out with 30 moorings and a dinghy dock for $120 per season; and a mooring in front of my house, which is free.

Winter storage is where you can find it, or with one of three haulout locations with travel lifts. One is a days sail from Portage Lake, one is an hour motor from Portage Lake, and one is on Portage Lake. I used the Portage Lake facility for about five years until the price for launch, haul-out and seven to eight months storage reached $650. That was in 1995. I now use a public ramp to launch and retrieve for a $1.00 donation per use, and store at home in my yard.

I am on the Clinton River leading out to Lk. St. Clair. For two miles up the river there is wall to wall slips and marinas. I am in a marina with 500 slips and all the amenities for $1700 a year and that includes haul out and storage or bubbling. This comine season I am going to start looking around for a cheap slip. There are sooooo many open slips up and down the river. The other option I am thinking about is joining the North Star sail club that has all the expected sail club amenities including a bar that is run on the honnor system....DANGER WILL ROBINS.....

I am starting to think that Lake Travis is a expensive lake to have a boat on. Might have to start looking at another lake somewhere near buy... But then again time I pay for the transfer I wouldn't save any money.

Chatfield Marina, Littleton CO. Apr thru Oct.

Nets about $2500/season for a 30' single slip, dock box, no power or water. There is a pumpout at the fuel dock, along with wash and potable water. An air pump is avail for $0.75 for about 5min. Elec and water slips are available.

Toilet facilities (with pay shower) avail on shore, laundry (pay) avail in the camping area. Winter storage is around $600, but I've been able to keep the boat at home for the last few years so I'm out of touch on that.

There's a small store and deli with reasonable food, beer is expensive (to be expected, it's a state park) and only 3.2%. A restaurant with a "full bar" was added a couple of years ago, but it's pricey and the food's just "ok".

If I sound bitter, in a way I am. Based on what I've heard for other places (even in CO), we're being raped. The facilities are reasonably maintained, tho the dock decking is usually a bit behind (lots of splinters, but the wood is slowly being replaced and upgraded). It is the nicest marina in the area (not that we have a lot to choose from...), but it's still pretty steep. The owner (well, the wife of the couple that own it) is more into $ than service or quality.

But, it's close to home and I can sail every day if I want. There is a local "yacht club" separate from the marina (club only, no facilities) which hosts racing on Wed nights and a few regattas thru the season.
