If I could find somewhere cheaper, I would move too! At Canyon Lake I pay $232 a month, year round. This includes about $14 for the Corps of Engineers (for which we get nothing in return) and for an outfit called W.O.R.D. which is responsible for cleaning up the Guadalupe river BELOW the dam - but does not do a darn thing on the lake. The marina supplies free power (except to the floating condominiums with their multiple A/C's), water, pump out, gas, and a ships store. Our Club is a separate entity for which we pay $25.38 a month and it's the best value on the lake.

<br />Chatfield Marina, Littleton CO. Apr thru Oct.

Nets about $2500/season for a 30' single slip, dock box, no power or water. There is a pumpout at the fuel dock, along with wash and potable water. An air pump is avail for $0.75 for about 5min. Elec and water slips are available.

Toilet facilities (with pay shower) avail on shore, laundry (pay) avail in the camping area. Winter storage is around $600, but I've been able to keep the boat at home for the last few years so I'm out of touch on that.

There's a small store and deli with reasonable food, beer is expensive (to be expected, it's a state park) and only 3.2%. A restaurant with a "full bar" was added a couple of years ago, but it's pricey and the food's just "ok".

If I sound bitter, in a way I am. Based on what I've heard for other places (even in CO), we're being raped. The facilities are reasonably maintained, tho the dock decking is usually a bit behind (lots of splinters, but the wood is slowly being replaced and upgraded). It is the nicest marina in the area (not that we have a lot to choose from...), but it's still pretty steep. The owner (well, the wife of the couple that own it) is more into $ than service or quality.

But, it's close to home and I can sail every day if I want. There is a local "yacht club" separate from the marina (club only, no facilities) which hosts racing on Wed nights and a few regattas thru the season.

With the exception of the above rate, which is highway robbery, I am paying $2,160 with water electric for seven months on Lake Macatawa with access to Lake Michigan. Across the lake mac (3/4 mi) I could pay $2600 for a spot @ Eldean Shipyard. All of the other marinas in my area range in between $2100 & $2600.

These sound like going rates for the Great Lakes areas. I left Whiskey Island Marina 6 years ago for 2700. Water, Electric 25 foot slip. Small Restaurant/bar. At the time they were on par with other marinas on Lake Erie.

On Lake Erie, I pay $1,200.00 for a 25' slip with both electric and water. I winter at a different boatyard for another $330.00.

I think most of the marinas around here are in the $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 range.

Chicago:

A mooring is $1,200 in downtown Chicago for a season of May 1 - Oct 31. A slip would cost around $3,600, but you have to wait for a lot of people to die before you get the privilage to pay that kind of money. Winter storage is about $1,000.

I figure my cost is about $2045. That includes club membership of $1100 and mooring, storage and haul in/out fees as shown below.

Mooring & Storage Fees:

* Mooring: $535/season (includes one dinghy rack space)
* Drysail from blacktop: Less than 15 ft.:$270; more than 15 ft.: $325
* Board boat rack space: $55/season
* Summer storage behind Clubhouse: $210
* Winter storage behind clubhouse: $180
* Winter storage on blacktop: $190;
* Spring launch or Fall haulout by commercial crane from/to blacktop: $110
* Dinghy Rack Space (not associated with mooring) $55

We only have moorings and dry sailing, no slips. The waterfront does have electric, water, restrooms, beach for the kids and shady playground. The clubhouse has a great bar and restaurant and rec room for the kids. There is also camping behind the clubhouse at no extra charge.

Drinks and food are reasonable, the food can either be fancy or a bar menu is a bit cheaper. Weeks that we race three times (including Sunfish) it can get a bit expensive but a great time for the family.

Probably $1000 for 2007 1 May through 30 Sept. Electric $135 for the same period. 25ft dock and clean porti johns. The funny part is I probably could still be sailing here in upstate New York. 1/2" of snow, no ice on lakes and no support for sailboat this time of year.
Temps have been in the 40-50 degree range.........

Here in Knoxville the Concord Yacht club membership is 400/year, and you have to put in 10 work hours/year, which is not really work at all, as you do it in work parties with your friends. A slip is 300/year. Lift rental is 7/day if you want to paint your boat bottom.

I am paying approximately $2100/year for a 32' finger slip in the Washington DC/Potomac River area. The marina has deicers/flow movers installed in case there is a deep freeze in the Potomac. The finger slips and the main docks are all floating. Each main dock (there are 4 with a total of about 300 slips) has a security gate for access to to it. There is an extra $20/month charge for electricity but I am not paying for the juice.

I dock on Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie. I pay 1295 for the season and that includes water and electricty. Have a nice pool and clean facilities. I have no complaints. Moved from Battery Park Marina where my boat was vandalized and they said sorry about your luck. It also cost 500 more. Very happy where I'm at.

One of my favorite fantasies (only some I can print) is to buy a 38 footer and retire someplace on the coast. It scares the heck out of me to think what the insurance and dockage will be.
Maybe I should go back to my old "hippie" days and just go hiking. Much cheaper. The wine was much cheaper back then too.

Frank,
I know that fantasy! I'm working on it desperately. In less than two weeks I will be closing on about six acres with 695 feet of shoreline on large tributary of the Pamlico River near Belhaven NC. About 2 miles from the ICW and a straight shot across the Pamlico Sound to Ocracoke. That area is about the cheapest spot on the coast to buy waterfront land, BUT IT WONT LAST! Since I started looking I've have watched it go up.

Man, I thought I had a good deal.... I'm in the Berkeley Marina on SF Bay. It's owned by the City of Berkeley and is the largest on SF Bay with about 1100 slips. Currently I'm paying month-to-month rates of $190 that includes water and electricity. The Bathrooms and Showers are for Marina residents only (so they are clean and well kept) are right at the entrance to my dock. The city police do a good job to keep it a pretty safe area. The marina is extremely well positioned (imo) for sailing in the Bay. It takes us a few minutes to get from the slip to the breakwater, and from there the Golden Gate Bridge is about 8 nm; then Pt. Bonita, which is demarcation between the 'Gate' and the Pacific, is another 2 nm.

In Cap Sante Anacortes,WA I pay $161/month.
The downside is I only have access to Pacific Ocean only, but it's year round.
