I just received a voucher for a 3 year subscription (27 issues for $27 dollars) to "Sailing World". Apparently it's such a great deal I "must reply within 5 days".
I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this magazine...any insight would be appreciated.
I currently receive and enjoy "Cruising World"...really enjoy the stories from sailors around the world. I also receive "Sail" magazine but will not be renewing...good information on new (expensive) boats, just not for me.
I've recieved it as a present the last few years. I'm through each issue in about 15 minutes. If you're into racing on the big boats, that seems to be the focus. I never find much meat to speak of.
I've been a Sail magazine subscriber since 1989. They have gotten better over the years but are still big-boat, international and national yacht racing-oriented. The thing that bugs me the most is that they us a subscription service, maybe more than one which barage you with renewal notices. For a period of time I recieved several notices, which ultimately resulted in my recieving three copies a month. My fault for not keeping track but.......when I notified Sail to send only one copy and extend my subscription, they didn't respond. Attrition has gotten me down the two per month. I'm not renewing though.
I also receive a magazine called Sailing, which I really like. It doesn't emphasize racing or cruising, but does shade toward cruising, has great articles, and excellent photography.
I've gotten Cruising world and Sailing World - same publisher, but have long ago ceased renewal. I usually check into their web sites for any timely articles though.

Could you give me the link for Sailing magazine? I got a promo issue some time back and am not sure which website is the actual magazine. I loved the photography also.
If you are REALLY into the racing side of sailing, you would probably find Sailing World of interest. If you are not heavily into racing, I'd suggest that you take a pass.
For the longest while the magazine used to be one of the benifits that you would get for joining US Sailing. (that and the Racing Rules of Sailing US Sailing has since severed their relationship with Sailing World.
It is published by the same people that do Cruising World, and has much of the same emphasis on bigger more expensive boats and equipment.
Thanks to all for your input. Most likely, and since I'm not a racer, I'll stay with "Cruising World"...just seems to have more stories about sailors and their cruising adventures.
