I have been waiting for my grill to arive so I can convert it for use on the boat. Imagine a realy nice stainless steel grill for 1/3 the price of a magma. Presently this grill is set up for use with charcoal. You can cook on one side or both. I will be converting the grill to cook on the lower or forward half with charcoal or propane. I will be using the interior parts from a small cheap propane grill and addapting as needed to the stainless unit. Here are a few pictures before I start. This unit is realy nice and latches shut into a compact little unit. I will be adding an adaptor for mounting on the stern rail as well.
I converted the grill using the gas regulator and heat element from a cheap 14 portable gas BBQ. It took 10 minutes to do the work and assemble it. Total cost so far if you include the old grill I used parts from = 65 dollars. Next step is to make a mounting system for the rail. Any ideas ??? So far this has been a very easy project.
The process of instaling the gas addaptor is soooo easy. Its a very nice stainless steel grill. One heck of a lot cheaper than the Magma. Bought it on E Bay.
Thanks for the great info. I really like the stainless grill. I dont know if I would do the conversion, But I would certainly be interested in using the grill as it is out of the box. Can you please supply info on where you purchased it.
I did a search on E Bay for the grill. (Chefmaster)BBQ they make two models and apear to be in high demand. I had to wait out a back order but it was worth it. They can be found for $35 to $50 dollars. Converting cost me nothing realy as I already had the other $14 dollar portable propane BBQ less the grill. I donated the grill to King Neptune at the new dock. I opened up a vent/louver at one end, drilled one hole in the bottom of the unit for the gas bar mount and assembled the whole thing in about 10 minutes. Im now devising a way to mount it on the boat. I have three choices, a square rod and petestal that mounts in the winch hole, stern rail brakets or a shelf like device on the stern rail stbd. quarter.
