I'm planning to take "Yee Ha" out on the Potomac to watch the Fourth of July fireworks. What is the legal limit to the number of people I can carry?

Thanks,
Bruce Baker

There is actually a formula but check the plate first.
I am not sure if the "serial number plate" in the cockpit has capacity on it. If it does, use that number, if it doesn't, the general rule of thumb is:

number of people= LOA x BEAM over 15

Or 200/15 = 13 people.

I would make the cutoff at 10 and make sure everyone has a life jacket...

we have had up to 12 out for a midnight cruise before and the boat did quite nicely. I will never do it again because of the way the boat got trashed, esp the head. seems several folks couldnt manage to hit the bowl. it was more of too much beer than too many people! the life jackets and your tolerance of that many folks on board is the key!

Encore! can sleep 5, "entertain" 10, if you get my meanin'. I like THOSE numbers!, but I've really never tested them......I first heard this from my good buddy's dad (about 70 then) when he asked me about an old Windrose I had many years ago. His response: "Sleeps 4, f.....k's 8"....I thought I'd die......

Whenever I have guests on board I go over a list of rules while on board. Number 1 is "EVERYONE sits down when using the head".

Bristle, you forgot to mention how many it sails???

We usually don't go sailing with more than 7, ideally 4, but fairly comfortably six. It sleeps 4, or a very tight knit group of 7 (2 forward who know each other, 2 short people on Port, one on starboard and two non-claustraphobic drunk lovers in the quarterberth)

I don't recommend sailing with more that 7, however for the fireworks we will motor not sail with about 25 between an Oday 30, a catalina 25 and an oday 28. All rafted off. The boat with the fridge gets the beer, the boat with the big table gets the food and the boat with the grill cooks the food. Anyone under 12 or anyone who cannot swim wears a life jacket at all times.

Rick we have similar rules, except that while under way, men and believe it or not, some very talented women are allowed to increase the lake levels as long at it is to leeward. Otherwise, everyone sits.
