Originally this appeared as a boat for sale that broke out into a thread about price and Jackstands.

In the interest of helping the owner sell his boat I'm moving it here as a non sales thread. The original is still listed without all these additional posts.....Please try to keep the swap meet area a discussion forum abou the items for sale - a prospective buyer doesn't want to wade through a zillion posts about non pertinent (or partially pertinent but not to him) information.

'89 C25 for sale

Due to new priorities, and a baby on the way.....

1989 Catalina 25, standard rig, fin keel, for sale. Dry seaworthy boat in great condition.

Catalina Mainsail with battens. 155% Genoa, on CDI roller furling with upgraded drum, reconditioned (new UV strip) 2005. Lewmar self-tailing winches, with all lines led aft for single-handling from cockpit.

Yamaha 6hp outboard, 1989 long shaft, well maintained and in excellent condition. Presently located at the City of East Chicago Marina, in winter storage. Storage until April, and spring launch are already paid for.

Freshwater boat for entire lifespan, sailed exclusively on Great Lakes. Bottom paint renewed in 2005.

Maroon trim on hull, with teak rails and hatchway covers. Maroon cockpit cushions and interior. Includes electronics (dual batteries, Standard VHF, navigation lights), and safety equipment (life preservers, two danforth anchors w/line, bumpers, swim ladder, boat hook, winch handles, bilge pump and handle, compass, and extinguisher). Marine head (new in 2005) and holding tank.

Asking $8200

Please contact me at epack@comcast.net, or 219.613.3407 with any questions. Pictures available for email.

Sounds like that price is too low!

Thank you! Unfortunately, lack of a trailer is a hindrance for some prospective buyers.

Steve Madden

I was thinking the same thing...it's way too low!
At EASE
I disagree concerning the trailer. Lots of sailors in my area do not want/have any use for a trailer. I bought a C25 without a trailer, and never moved it. When I sold it, the guy who bought it hired a hauler to move it 150 miles, then he never moved it. Maybe it depends where you are in the country.

Another thing to consider is those who want to regularly launch and retrieve from a trailer will want a wing or swing keel. Those who want to sail from a slip or mooring will (or should) prefer the fin, as I did. (I never had or wanted a trailer.)

All that said, the '89 C-25 is one of the nicest 25-footer ever built by anybody. If this one's in good shape, it's a steal.

Mjolnir
Sailing from a slip has always been the case with this boat. A trailer was never needed, or desired.

Kip C
Ok, we know she doesn't have a trailer, but is she on her own cradle or stands? Our local dealer has 2, maybe 3, cat 25 cradles for it.

Mjolnir
Jack stands, supplied by the marina as part of winter storage.

Dave Bristle
Most yards provide stands as a standard part of storage, and some don't allow owner-supplied cradles. One issue with a cradle is you have to store it somewhere during the season, often for a fee.

Some thread this is turning into--the guy is just trying to sell his boat

Kip C
In general, around here you have to have either a trailer or a steel cradle, due to the lack of full service marinas on the lakes. I mention the cradles as trailer/transportation options for whoever may be interested in the boat.

bigelowp
Hi All, IMHO -- the going pricefor at 25's is in the $5k-$8k range -- without trailer. I think the real issue is finding someone who is looking for at Cat 25 who is loal and is NOT bottom fishing. You will get your price -- just have patience!

Kip C
Maybe at the posters request, the powers that be could clean it up for him?

Dave B
I'll endorse that and repeat one more time: great boat, great price. Signing off...

Red Viking
If I were to sell MY '82 C-25 I would start at at least 12K to 13K if not more.

1 year old Genny - 3 year old fully battened main - autopilot - plotter with external GPS antenna for anchor watch duty - new running and standing rigging - new lazy jacks - 4 group 29's - water system with electric faucet - macerator set up to 6 gal thetford porta potty - best of all worlds... solar panels - awesome ground tackle, AIS soon! etc, etc, etc....

If you purchased the boat listed above for $8,200 - you would still need to spend a few grand to get up to my $12 K boats standards.... Value is in the eye of a discerning buyer. $8,200 sounds like a very good value particularly becasue it is a C25 and not the bulkhead free C 250... It is as they say a very good old boat!

Good Luck!
sten - proud owner of the most expensive '82 C-25 there is!

Duane Wolff
If I have time tonight I will relist this as originally stated and also move it under a new title outside of the swap meet.
