Has anyone drilled into there mast to attach the folding steps sold at places like West Marine for going aloft fast and easy? I lke the idea of the steps but I'm concerned about the integrity of the mast and the load bearing capability of the steps. On a good day I weigh 225lbs.

Don't do it, the standard rig mast is thin - the steps will weaken it too much. You'll also impose a huge load on your rigging. I've hoisted my wife up in the bosun's chair all the time (she is 100 lbs). I've hoisted my friend Gary at 165 lbs and would not go much over that.

Make an A frame, it is so easy to drop the mast, then winch it back up. Or hoist a friend.

If you really want steps, consider the Mast Mate nylon climbing steps that pull up the slot in the mast with your halyard. http://www.mastmate.com/
