We need to replace the spreader boots on the boat. I notice that the rubber types are being discontinued and are being replaced with these:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/producte/10001/-1/10001/72058/0/0/speader%20boots/All_2/mode+matchallpartial/0/0

Polystester types.
Has anybody replaced their spreader boots recently?

Do some searching. The rubber ones can still be found.

Cate,
I agree with John, I have a set of those on my San Juan 21 and they're not what you want. They don't stay on very well, and tend to work themselves loose, not so much that they'll fall off, but enough to not look ship shape. I'd look harder for the rubber ones.

Catalina Direct still sells the rubber boot kit (39.95). They are listed on the web page under "Spar Fittings". I just put a pair on my boat, so I know they still have them.

I just had the mast down and our local WM found a store in their system that still had a set of the rubber ones. However, they screwed up and didn't get them transferred to my local store. They wound up giving me a deal on the leather boots they are peddling now (very expensive if you pay full price) so I could get the mast back up. I complained to WM HQ about the cost of this item. However, they do seem to go on ok. They are sewn on and are the same relative shape as the old rubber boots. The item shown in your link was dismissed out of hand as being unsuitable for the job. If I need to replace these, I'll just go to the local saddle shop and pay a buck or two for some soft leather and cut my own pattern.

Our local WM had one last pair of medium rubber spreader boots and they sold them to me at a discount so we're all set. Wondering why such a standard item is being discontinued after all these years and being replaced with a different style that apparently doesn't work as well. Hmm.

I use the edson leather spreader boots. They are stiched n each season. I'll try to find a link for them but they work great and Personally I like them much better than the rubber ones.
