Hello everyone, I am a new owner of a Catalina 25 swing keel where the tiller was replaced with a wheel control and a helmsman seat install over the rear transom area where the original main sheet traveler was located. I was looking at the photo album and can see that several other have done the same. I just purchased the boat with the mast down and all hardware winterized.

My question is; how and where have others installed and attached the main sheet traveler or even where have you attached the main sheet pulley if it was installed direct?

Welcome Lloyd! Would it be possible to post a picture of what you've got now? There are instructions for doing so in the Testing forum--it involves uploading the picture to any other site (like Shutterfly, the free photo site). That would probably help some of us to steer you toward a practical solution.

You can also use the Search function (above) to look for "traveler" in the C-25 forum--there have been many discussions on moving it from the transom to, for example, the companionway (with mid-boom sheeting).

Stay in touch...

Please post a photo of the other , forward end of the cockpit. You do not appear to have a mainsheet attachment point in the stern of the boat.

thanks for your interest in looking into this. here are a few other pictures that i have. the only location where i think that the main sheet may have been attached it a bracket or shackle that was added just below the companionway at the base of the door area.

how did you enlarge the picture?

Lloyd,

I would have to believe the bracket that was added just below the companionway hatchboards is indeed for your mainsheet. The boom may have a bale directly above that shackle to attach the mainsheet.

These pictures from Brooke Wilson's bimini install show his midboom mainsheet setup...

As to how I make the pictures bigger, you could do the same by clicking on the thumbnail pics at Shutterfly to make the pictures large before you copy the address.

Someone has built a little bridgedeck or shelf under your companionway. The short piece of track to starboard and the "car" with the shackle in the center is where you hook your mainsheet. This is a custom and unique solution. Either the track has broken or was designed merely to allow the mainsheet to be moved to starboard while at the dock to make getting in and out of the cabin easier. The WB Catalina 250 has a non traveling mainsheet in a similar position. After you have sailed the boat for a while you may decide to do something different. Look at lots of boats at you marina and see how others are rigged.

That wheel system looks pretty cool.
Does anyone know where to find something like that?
That's a mod I'd like to consider.

I imagine the stern pulpit was a custom build?

I purchased the boat with the wheel system installed. I did find in the documents that came with the boat information about the steering system. It is a Edson International product, remote linear actuator (RTA). the phone number of the company is 508-995-9711.

good luck.
