I just replaced my external wire halyards with a kit from Catalina Direct that included new sheaves. Much easier on the hands without the meathooks from broken strands on the wire halyards. CD is not the cheapest but they (usually) send you stuff that works for the boat, and they're quick and convenient.
What length and size would you buy for main and Jib halyards. My halyards are run aft to the cockpit. I was thinking 68 to 70 feet. Standard rig that would be twice the mast plus 12 to 14 feet. The mast is like 28 feet right?
I ordered 80 ft. Calculated the mast at 30, added 14' to the winch, 1' for the bowline which got me to 75' so, at 50% off, I went for 80. CD specs 5/16", I also changed the sheaves and so went w/ 3/8" just to make it a little easier on the hands....
I have 75' of sta-set x for the jib and main sails and its a little to much. 70 feet would have been more manageable if I had to do it over again. (The main halyard is led aft.)
