After silently viewing this forum for about a year (and dreaming about getting a sailboat for the last 10 years) I finally did it. Put in an offer on a 1999 250 WB, tiller with teak floors last month. I'm picking her up in 2 weeks. You guys really helped towards the decision of going with a 250, thanks. Also had to buy an F-150 supercrew to tow her as my smaller SUV wouldn't handle it. Getting my basic cruising certification done this month (I have so much to learn!). Should be good to sail with the wife and 2 kids (8 & 12) this summer.
Consequently, I got this picture of the rudder and was wondering what generation it was? Could you help me identify it?

The rudder looks like a third generation since it is balanced. They made two different lengths - yours may be the shorter one since it is a WB boat? Do you have a measurement on the length?

No measurements yet. But it does look like the type that is good with Weather Helm being so forward to the hinges (darn I don't remember what those are named). Yes it's a WB.

Hinges work for me. Although when talking to saltier folks, use the word pintles for the hinge parts on the rudder and gudgeons for the parts on the back of the boat, er, I mean transom!
Looks like you got your answer so just wanna say I know exactly what you have been going thru. I got my 2nd catalina after a 20 yr break-kids finally moved out! Nothing beats sailing.
