After last night's race, while we were cleaning up the boat, there was this alarm coming out of the electrical panel. It didn't look like the battery was low--the cabin lights looked fine--but the alarm came on anyway. Any ideas what it was for?

I don't know of any alarms on the electrical panel. Isn't the back of your panel open to the cockpit lazerette? Could it have been something in there?

Do you have a circuit breaker in that panel? If so, it could be 'buzzing', you should be able to feel the vibration on the button if it is on it's way out.

If the alarm sound was accompanied by the words, "General Quarters, General Quarters, All hands man your battle stations!", then it was probably a General Alarm.

This is the sound of a General Alarm

Are you sure it was from the electrical panel? The PO of my boat installed a depth meter and ran the alarm box up into the ceiling panel above the cabin light. Could that be what you're hearing also? Your depth gauge may be set to go off "x" amount off feet from the bottom - typically after the race and at the dock.

I think Turk's got it. Cancel the stall-speed alarm.

Your cell phone was on vibrate lying on the nav table. Don't laugh....I've done it and wondered for a while what the noise was.

One step beyond that is the cell phone lying close to a speaker. There is a very weird but distinct buzzing that goes on there on a regular basis. Now I have installed a waaay over the top electrical system on Lady Kay, see below, with a total of 1400!!! Ah of juice.....something about the Admiral wanting Air Conditioning while sleeping, even at anchor. (The hot-flash thing.) It's a long story involving multiple battery banks, inverters, chargers, etc. etc.

Soooo, here I am thinking that my design is fundamentally flawed, and that I am about to go up in flames......untill I finally figured out the phone was the source of the noise......
