I want to replace the jib sheet horn cleats with cam cleats. I am thinking about just using the same holes (assuming I can find cams with the matching holes). The angle is not great but I think it will work. Any one done this?

I would recommend you leave the horn cleat in place. Install a cam cleat inward of the cleat, in line with the aft horn. You then use the horn cleat to guide the jib sheet right into the cam cleat. This way you still have that cleat for docking (or whatever use) and you don't have to worry about lining up the holes or filling them.

I have better photos on my PC at home, but I checked my webshots to see what I have right now to show you. Here is a photo from my excellent sail Wednesday with my brother at the helm. You can see the cam cleat is mounted right on the edge of the cockpit combing and when used, I simply pull the sheet behind the cleat to guide it.

If I remember, I'll try to post a better picture showing the cleat in use but I'm sure you get the idea.

I believe in two cleats but neither of them a horn. I like a clam for the skipper, angled back to the helm position and a cam for crew, pointed at the crew position. On my current boat I have selftailers and a clam for the skipper.

Frank,
OMG you really like your tunes!
I like your speaker placement.

I did what Justin described--that way I didn't have to use a riser for the cam. The sheet comes off the winch at too high an angle to hold in a cam mounted flush to the coaming, unless you lead the sheet as he describes. You can sorta see them both here...

You still have to hold the sheet up to tail it when trimming, but when you have it where you want, you just hook and snap.

Pink Floyd Umma Gumma was my favorite release, it was before they went pop with Darkside and the Wall.

Be careful with that axe Eugene.

I wish I had more power to them but they do deliver bass and that is hard to do in a non surface mount marine speaker.

My previous boat had jam style horn cleats which worked real well.

I use my current regular horn cleats like jam cleats by doing a couple round turns then giving them a tug.
