The water has just stopped flowing over the spillway. Now you would think this is the time to start releasing water thru' the gates...but they can't! The 10' torrent surging over the spillway detached huge boulders which formed another dam in the river channel! The Corps of Engineers are now taking bids for the removal of all the debris...knowing the speed at which government entities normally move I wonder if it will get started before Xmas. The lake water is apparently contaminated from all the flooding of the septic tanks/sewage systems, so any form of boating is banned until further notice. I'm definitely starting to get withdrawal symptoms<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> Derek
Derek. Thanks for the update. I was wondering how things were going. As I remember you could not get in to see your boat because of a flooded road. Hope you can at least sit in the boat even if you can't sail. Hang in there.
No boating because of a few septic systems?? I've ridden in boats on the sewer/river through Bangkok, Thailand... You wouldn't want to water your garden with it, but I'm still here! (I guess some people would say that explains everything.)

Sure Dave - but you didn't have the Sheriff's Dept, the Park Rangers and the Corps of Engineers enforcing the ban...I don't want to swim in it - just sail ON it! Derek

Odds are you'll DISSOLVE before you have a chance to DROWN.
Even the crazy Hobie Fleet (134) unanimously voted NOT to race on the River as a Memphis in May event a few years back. A local bidnessman was just fished out several miles downstream almost 2 months after his cruiser lost power and was pulled under a moored barge by the 8 knot flood current. I sail the Tennessee River a hundred miles east of home-still leery of towboats and marina water quality. capn rick
I used to row crew in college on the Ohio river in Cincinnati. One of the guys caught a crab rowing one day* and fell in. The series of shots he had to get for tetnus and a gazillion other would have made a heroin junky afraid of needles...
*thats what they call it when your out of synch and your oar drops into the water after the guys behind you. The force of the water pushing your blade forward is enough to literally knock you out of the boat if you aren't carefull.
