So a good friend at the club just purchased a Viper 830.. Melges type of sportboat. 26' long 2600lbs with half of the weight in a 7' bulbed keel. He got it Wednesday, and I get to go for my first sail on Saturday. Check em out

It'll be interesting to see how many boats around you drop their sails when you get out on that thing!

Was out on a Melges 24 for a short sail, not too long ago. That boat is a blast. First time I saw continuous sheets on both main and jib.
Have fun.

There's a Viper races in our Wurstfest Regatta every year. He turns around the weather mark, pops his chute and it's like a fighter jet hitting his afterburners!!

I'd love to have one of those baby's except for the fact that the handicap numbers usually reflect racing team times. To get the competitive performance, you need a good, well practiced crew. A good friend in our club has a J80. In our races, he always finishes way ahead of the rest of us but his rating allows for no mistakes so althhough he wins his share, he doesn't win 'em all. The rating on the C25 isn't nearly as tough because they are not a race boat and are raced (for the most part) by rank amateurs like me!
