If you've ever put your fat foot on an open rope clutch, chances are you've snapped the handle off like I did. I know, just be more careful to close the clutch before scrambling around, but every now and then ........ <img src=icon_smile_8ball.gif border=0 align=middle>
I thought it was great somebody offers the handles for sale. Contact Rig-Rite in Warwick, RI. www.rigrite.com. My new one was $12, which I thought was a good deal better than having to buy a new rope clutch. Bought a spare too .... just in case I get clumsy again.
The handles are held in place by a pin with spring clip on each end. Pry the spring clips off and knock the pin out. I found I was able to remove the old handle and get the new one in place by removing the top two screws on the mini-lock housing, loosening up the bottom screws a little, and gently prying the body open with a large screwdriver -- just enough to get the handle in or out. Once the new handle is in place, reinsert the pin and slide the spring clips back on. I found the spring clips were a little loose, so I re-compressed them (very gently) with a set of pliers. Ideally, new ones should probably be installed, but the new handles didn't come with new pins and clips. As you can tell, I tried to avoid having to remove the entire mini-lock and reset it. It seemed to work well without abusing the mechanism and made for a much faster repair. Depending on which clutch you're working on, you may need a short philips head, or a right angle one for tight spaces. The lower screws heads on the double clutch on the starboard side are hard to get to because of the lip from the hatch.
Thaks for the help. I ordered a replacement today. I was charged $14 so you got a better deal. I didn't realize that until I reread your posting. I think I'll forget the $2.
