I am thinking about buying a trailor for my 250WK...are there any differences in the trailor that comes with the 250WB and the 250WK?

If anyone is selling one in the Texas area I would be interested.

I am not interested in doing the trailor sailor thing but I would like to have the ability to get my boat out without having to bother someone else about using their tailor. Since we can not use Canyon Lake I found the owner of the trailor that came with my boat. He graciously agreed to let me use his trailor but I had to rent him a slip for a month at Lake Travis so we could get his boat off. I do not mind the expense of the slip, it is just the time it has taken me to coordinate making all the arrangements to get a temporary slip, get his boat off, get mine out and then the same when we exchange the trailor again. It would also be useful for time like this when natural events prevent you from using certain waters.
Thanks,
Steve Steakley

Steve,

The Trail-Rite trailer for the wing keel is very different than the one made for the water-ballast model. The wing keel version uses pads as seen in this photo.

Although not a very good photo, you can see below that the water-ballast trailer uses bunk boards and it sits much lower on the trailer [this photo was taken minutes after the crane lowered it from the delivery truck trailer].

Here is another view showing just how far back the bunk boards go.

I remember your boat arriving on the same delivery truck from CA as my boat. Of course, mine shipped with a trailer (a $3400 option). Yours was delivered on the truck mounted cradle. It was very interesting talking to the truck driver while he waited for the dealer to cut him the COD check for both boats. The driver actually showed me the bill! While I ordered my boat from the factory, I think Claude at the Sailboat Shop purchased yours for later sale. Is this correct? Were you the initial owner?

By the way, the top photo shows the trailer that belongs to hull #402. The boat is still kept wet slipped at my marina. You might try calling Lake Travis Yacht Harbor to see if the owner might be interested in selling it. I don't know either way but I do know that the boat has sit in its slip for the last couple of years.

Good luck in your search. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny for that trailer!

Steve,

Dittos to Mark's post. There is a BIG difference in the WK and WB trailers. When I ordered my boat in Feb the WB trailer was $3750 and the trailer for the WK Claude had on the lot there in Austin was a few hundred more. I think the WK trailer does not come with the tonuge extention, as it really wouldn't do any good for launch/recovery. It's simply still way too short to get the boat off the trailer. You have to lift the boat or do the 'cable launch' thing.

As an aside, I finally made it out to CLM last week and took the shuttle to the 'island.' My 'Ruah' is still nice and dry on top of the hill (and unfortunately will remain high and dry). The water is down below the first floor of 'Papa Dock's, but they said the water is only dropping at about 1.5 inches per day since it stopped flowing over the spillway. Steve, the marina owner, told me it may be early October before the road to the marina is again in service! Which leads me to ask, how are you going to get a trailer out to your boat? Looking at the ramp situation at the marina, I'm not sure they can get the boat lift into any position to pick up a boat right now. Actually, I'm not sure there is ANY ramp accessible right now anywhere on the lake.

Good luck with hauling the boat! I'd like to see how your installation works out. I've got to do the same (intalling some equipment) with 'Ruah'. I really should do it now since I can't get her to the water anyhow.

Chick-a-pea came with bunkboards on the trailer and the tongue extention. Plus it has the surge brakes also. It was not a problem to launch at a typical ramp here on the St. Johns R. I've only done it the one time. But I wouldn't want to wait for low tide. My brother and I had it launched in one and a half hours and that was first time. Only problem was it wouldn't come off the trailer after I had backed down into the water. After trying several times a fellow came over in his skiff to help pull it off when he notice a line still tied from the starboard winch to the trailer. <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> Of course the dealer had done it. And the dock was on the port side so I couldn't see it. After untying it she floated right off.

Safe voyages,

Mark, thanks for the photo's it spells out the difference right away but I have to wonder about Chick-a-pea and it's trailor having bunk boards? I will check into the trailor at Travis...Maybe he give it up?

Bren,
I plan to motor to LCYC. I have secured the permission of the Comal county Sheriff to move the boat. I plan to install a Bi-Data Standard Horizon speed/depth meter and transducer, I will let you know how it goes. The forum has been most helpful in pulling together the information needed to get this done. The sailing community is really incredible,I have had more than adaquate offers of help and I expect my first experience in trailoring Moon Chaser to be perfect. When I get her back in the water I will let you know and hopefully the lake will be re-opened to boating. I understand they are almost have the flood gates repaired so within two weeks they expect to be releasing water again. It will take several weeks to get the water down to boating levels but at least we are seeing some positive results. You and your family are invited out immediately. The road situation is a different thing but everyone that went throught the last flood said that they had the road to the marina opened 2 weeks after the water receded.

Steve,

Great! I heard that they were granting a few "one-time-passes" to allow boats to be hauled. Hope all goes well with getting her on the trailer and I know the installation we be so. Hope to finally meet you at the lake someday.
