Thanks guys. The hanging locker door is the one in question. There's just a hole there with a latch on the back side that I can flip with my finger. However the more I look at it the more I think it was designed that way.
My '97 model came that way too - with the hole you poke your finger through and pull the hook. I'm going to try upgrading to the pop-up latches linked in my previous post. It's not a high priority though. I'll leave it for a winter project while on the hard. I'll let you know how it goes.
Our '97 has the same finger-through-the-hole latches. They're a pain to use and the one in our galley was broken, so you had to latch it with a pinky finger. I took it apart & fixed it with a spring from a ball point pen cut in half. Works great now. However, I like the idea of replacing them with something more functional, I don't like sticking my finger in a hole when a boat is moving around, I have visions of broken fingers.
Its odd that my galley door has a nice knob that turns to open. Yet the hanging locker has the hole and finger thing. David and Dave does your galley door have a latch or the hole?
Tom, both my galley cabinet and the hanging locker have/had the hole and finger latch. I just replaced the latch on the galley cabinet door with the latch I linked to in my earlier post. I bought the one on the left in the picture - it's the chrome-plated model. I had to cut out a small spot on the inside door jam for the strike plate, but was able to use the original hole. The hanging locker might be more of a challenge. The galley cabinet door was easy because I took the whole frame home and put it on a work bench. I think I'll need to work on the hanging locker door in place.
I have the old latch if you need it, or are you just looking to upgrade the latch you have?
