My boat has a switch on the electrical panel for mast lights, but no lights on the mast. I don't see any wire leading to the mast. I'm thinking maybe it is led under the liner to the mast step, but not sure. Does anyone have lights on their mast or have information on where the wire should lead?

yep, the wire on my boat leads from the switch panel on the port side up behind the rear bulkhead
the wires are run under the teak boards under the deck up thru the forward bullhead then accross to the mast compression post. There is a hole drilled thru the deck, a deck fitting and then it is attached to the mast by a small hole and grommit.

I had to add mine. I'm not sure if they came with them or not. If you are going to add one, do a steaming and deck light at the same time. Don't cheap out on the wire, it really does get a lot of weather beating. Catalina Direct has some nice ones as does defender.com.

I have to totally agree, the mast should be brought down and the wire run thru some kind of conduit, of light is at the tip of the mast, a steaming light/ deck light would be a great addition

My boat #433 only has a bow light. It appears to be a factory installation with concealed wiring in the bowpulpit and welded frame to the bowpulpit.
My last 25' sailboat had a bow light, mast light and anchor light.
does a single bow light meet regulations?
Seems I recall having a switch for an anchor light, but certainly don't have one mounted to the mast.

you should have all 3, bow red and green, stearn white, and a mast light. If you dont have the mast light how will power boater know that you are under ssil at night. The stearn light tells other boaters where your stearn is after looking st the bow lights, and what direction you are heading.

The only option is the anchor light, when i am at anchor i just use the mast light, but i should add the mid mast light

When I inspected my mast head last year before launching the boat, I did not see a place that looked like a light might have been mounted, and I know that I do not have a wire in the mast for it. Does anyone have any specs/pictures or information on this installation?

Also, where is the steam light mounted? Is that the same as the stern light on a power boat?

I have a bow light, red and green, and a white stern light mounted on the starboard side of the transom that look like originals. I'll have to poke around a bit and see if there are any wires led from the switch for the mast light. At some point I will have to drop the mast and would like to get everything together at once. There are a few other things like re-taping/replacing the spreader boots and putting a new windex on the top that need to be done. I'm just having so much fun sailing it that I hate the thought of taking it down.

our mast light is mounted towards the rear of the masthead, I have also installed a windex, the mastlight, and I also have installed the windex for our wind instruments.

I am going up to check our boat in the next hour, if anyone wants photo's of something post it in this forum. I get post via email to my phone.

I went out to the boat today and looked at the wiring that I could see. There is a wire that is hooked up to the switch for mast lights on the panel. The wiring harness seems to run up under the sink area and then back towards the aft bulkheads as Chris described. I didn't start tearing apart the trim to see where the wire might lead. I don't see any wire running to the compression post at the front bulkhead or any sign of any fitting around the mast area on the deck or on the mast that looks like a wire might have been once. I don't know where that wire goes or if it is dead ended somewhere. I can't figure why there would be a wire hooked to the switch but no lights on the mast.

I'm liking the idea I saw over in the C25 forum. Get one of those new super bright LED camping lanterns that run over 200 hours on a set of 3 C batteries and hook it onto the backstay and pull it up with the main halyard. Instant Anchor light. Might be a good idea to tie a piece of string to it to make sure you can get it back down. No wires up the mast or holes in the deck. For no more often then I plan to be out anchored after dark sounds like it might be a good alternative.
