Mirabella V is the largest sloop but I think he was talking about the Maltese Falcon, worlds largest sailboat. Don, you have the last word..... Steve A
Our small lake is full of them the reason being that the local sailshop is a MacGregor vendor and people just don't know better before buying. Take me for instance. When I began on the search for my sailboat, I too began by looking at the MacGregors. I even bought a brand new SUV (Santa Fe) with 3500 lbs towing capability due largely in part to the MacGregor towing specifications. Unfortunately I needed the vehicle FIRST due to a new job and shopped for the sailboat AFTER. 3 months later I had to sell the Santa Fe because I bought my C250 and needed something more heafty an F-150. Even so, I ate the loss on the new SUV depreciation because I was very convinced (still am) about purchasing the C250. To compensate for the deprecation loss I bought a 2 year old F150. My sailboat + F150 comes to about $40,000 which is the price of a new F150. I came out of it pretty good after all.
This just goes to show you that the MacGregor target market are people who don't know much about sailboats. If they would, they would simply buy something else for about the same price. As soon as one educates himself on sailboats the MacGregor comes off the list pretty quickly. If you ever have the chance of seeing one up close (like I did many times) you won't believe how light the rigging is. Too bad because when I see sailboats with broken rigging coming back to the docks they are usually MacGregors and some of them are really nice people too. Now imagine how the poor guy who bought the Mac65 on an impulsive buy THEN educating himself on sailboats must feel.
MacGregors are the Yugos of sailboats, to me. Not that I agree, cuz I don't, but I have heard it said that Catalina's are the VW's. Hey they are at least a Toyota! Steve A

Let's see, Hunters can be the Hyundais?
Yes, nothing wrong with a Toyota. I have had several and have a Prius now. They are dependable and reliable and get great gas milage. Sounds exactly like Catalina. Not sure about Lexus, to me they are overpriced Toyotas. Catalina is not overpriced. Steve A PS That looks like a very fine Mac 22. Very similar to my first boat, a Catalina 22. Nice photo BTW. Outfitted very smartly.
Two 4 wheel drive Tacoma's, 4 cylinders, 257,000 between the two of them. One Toyota Avalon 82,000 miles 31 mpg. One Catalina 250, still towed around by the second Tacoma. [Boat is basically empty]. Never a mechanical issue with any of the Toyota's or the Catalina....
