I've never quite understood... If pirates capture a container ship, what do they do with it? Go into some port and fence the containers?? (Hey buddy, wanna see some BIG boxes? I've got a BUNCH!) If they ransom it, how do they get away with the money? Or, if the payment is made on-shore, how do the pirates get away from the ship then? Everybody knows where it is...
Oh, and how do you go about boarding a container ship at sea? I guess maybe you threaten to sink it, and then they invite you aboard to kill them? Why don't the container ships carry some anti-tank weapons. Hmmmmmm... I'm having trouble here.
Dave, you may enjoy a book called Dangerous Waters by John Burnett. Its all about modern piracy and is set primarily in Southeast Asia. I thought it was facinating and got through it in two days.
The book makes it sound like the pirates are primarily interested in the contents of the ship's safe. One of the interesting parts is how crews use the ship's firefighting equipment for defense at night.
