My 1978 FK/SR was hauled today for pressure wash, bottom painting, compounding and wax the entire boat. I was pleased to see that the bottom looked good. No blisters. After 30 years in the water! The bottom paint was just barely through to the epoxy undercoat on the leading edge of the keel, on the bottom of the keel, and at the very back of the boat just before the rudder. No "Catalina Smile". No rust streaks. All in all a very clean bottom. So there is no excuse for sailing slow in the NYD race.

The bottom and cast iron keel were stripped 5 years ago and epoxy encapsulated.

I'll be out just about $1000 but back in the water by Friday and good for another 2 years.

I am in the yard just next to a J24 and it is amazing how much stronger their rudder attachments are. Ours look like a joke next to theirs.

It's the rudders themselves that sometimes haven't.

Now you know where to put an extra coat of paint (I assume ablative) and, if just for a few days, how some of us feel right now!

You know Jim, it might be stating the obvious, but if you would quit sailing
200 days a year
you might get more then two years out of that paint job!

I have at least 3000 miles on that paint job.

I can't tell you how happy I was to see the bottom looking clean and without problems.

The gel coat is broken off in some little chips at the very corner of the stern just above the water line. I'll fix that in the slip.

Thank God she is back in her slip as of lunch time today. I was without a boat for about 30 hours, it was killing me.

Yesterday, as I climbed down the swim ladder on to the step ladder and down to the asphalt, I didn't feel any sympathy for you. Sorry, Jim.
