I am hoping someone has experience with fixing a leak on a sea ranger. Below are the pictures of the boat. I understand that the type of repair kit depends on the boat material.
You want a repair kit for the material the boat is made of, such as PVC or Hypalon--particularly the adhesive--one won't work well on the other. Do you know what the Sea Ranger is? (I can't find anything on them.) WM has kits and glues for both types. They also have some cleaner$ and UV protectant$ for inflatables. I'd stick to mild soaps and not be too particular about it--better to have some spots than weakened material.
Chris, Glad to help, it seems like pretty good stuff.
As far as cleaning, I used Simple Green, a green scrubby sponge & elbow grease on my Avon. When I got it there was probably years of diesel exhaust that had built up on it from it's previous charter boat dinghy life. I spent a large chunk of a weekend scrubbing it with the the above mentioned stuff and it came out great. It was easy to see where it'd be scrubbed and not, there was a definite grub line where it hadn't be cleaned.
To make it easier to scrub, you can inflate it so it's relatively hard. The constant water will keep it cool enough to not expand in the sun, and then make sure to let out air before letting it sit in the sun to dry.
I sent a picture to the PO (who'd just bought the charter boat and didn't want the Avon), he said he'd charged me too little for the boat (which was true, but he already knew that).
We have a Zodiac, made of Hypalon. Last fall I ripped a 4" gash in the bottom. I took it to the guy who sold it to me. After he thoroughly chastised me for how dirty it was - he fixed the hole for $40. He glued a patch on the inside and the outside. He spend more time cleaning the area than anything else.
After he fixed the rip, he sold me a bottle of Hypalon cleaner.
I'd tried to clean it with my pressure washer (on low and then on medium power) using boat soap but nothing cleaned it. When I used the manufacturer's recommended stuff, it cleaned up like a breeze and now it looks new again.
